Many people underestimate the power of how working on any team can benefit teenagers. In junior high I watched hundreds of movies about football and was more interested in the idea of pummeling somebody or the glory of a touchdown. However, after I actually got actively involved in team sports I realized there was so much more to it than the average person would think.
I joined only to say I belonged to a team, I actually ended up learning work ethic, using a competitive drive, leadership skills, and the idea of teamwork. Contrary to how some movies or assumptions might make you believe, you're never given the chance to win by yourself and get thrown up on every body's shoulders. You're given the chance to do your job to the best of your ability and count on your 12 teammates they will do theirs. If everybody has faith in each other and tries their hardest, you will win; this is the way all teams work.
Because of the experience of playing on a team I am more confident in my team work and leadership skills. They have also given me the competitive drive to want to rise up above the people I need to.
