Highschool Football in the U.S vs Canada
As most people know, football is taken a lot more serious in America. We got out of the hotel for 2 days to stay with players from SunnyHills and witnessed what true commitment to one sport is like. Every day they wake up in the morning and go to school like everyone else, however they have specific school schedules, actual periods where their class would just be "football." They would work out one day and go over plays another, something we had never experienced. They also practiced for hours on end after school, none of them had part time jobs; their parents understood football was their lives. Even on Saturday, I found myself waking up early and getting dragged to a weekend practice.
Needless to say, they beat us during the big game.
Use your head!
Sometimes when you're in the thick of all of the excitement you don't think as clearly as you should. I know in most sports, your coach constantly tells you that 95% of losses aren't from you not being capable or your opponent being better than you, but smarter. Whether its not paying attention and losing your team 10 yards from a penalty, or missing a block cause you're staring at a cheerleader, mental mistakes can definately cost the game. Above is a video of a very funny case when a player get confused and tackles his own teammate. Way to go! Videos can be found all over the viral video world of mistakes like this that cost the game.
What football did for me
I joined only to say I belonged to a team, I actually ended up learning work ethic, using a competitive drive, leadership skills, and the idea of teamwork. Contrary to how some movies or assumptions might make you believe, you're never given the chance to win by yourself and get thrown up on every body's shoulders. You're given the chance to do your job to the best of your ability and count on your 12 teammates they will do theirs. If everybody has faith in each other and tries their hardest, you will win; this is the way all teams work.
Because of the experience of playing on a team I am more confident in my team work and leadership skills. They have also given me the competitive drive to want to rise up above the people I need to.
NFL banning of touchdown celebrations
We all know competitiveness is the key to nearly all sports, but is it alright to go as far as taunting your opponents with arrogant celebrations? Touchdown celebrations, like in the video above, have been around since the early years of football, often known as "part of the game." However, some believe that athletes are setting a bad example by promoting unsportmanslike conduct. In 2006, the NFL decided that they would no longer allow taunting or any excessive celebrations or attemps to"draw attention to a player or players," college football leagues governed by the NCAA followed soon after. The CFL however, is far less strict, allowing celebrations.
Do you think the game would be the same without icons like Gizmo Williams doing his famous backflip after the punt? Football is a competitive sport and "ego" is part of the entertainment, however, are atheletes setting bad examples? The NFL thinks so.

FIFA World Cup
The format of the tournament involves 32 national teams competing for the title.
There has been 18 tournaments held since 1930, only seven nations have won the title. Italy are the current champions and have won four titles, Germany is next with three. The other former champions are Uruguay winners of the inaugural tournament, and Argentina with two titles each, and then England and France with one title each.
The most recent World Cup was held in Germany 2006. The next one World Cup will be held in South Africa, between June 11 and July 11 of 2010, and the 2014 World Cup will be held in Brazil.
